Based on the thunderstorm data of 11 meteorological stations in Shanghai, the temporal and spatial climatic characteristics of thunderstorm in recent 50 yearswere analyzed. The results indicated that the annual total thunderstorm days p resented decreasing trend from 1960 to 2008, and especially obvious in autumn. In recent 30 years, thunderstorm days in Augustwere more than that of Sep tenber. In the whole year, the decrease of thunderstorm dayswasmore in the northwestern, southwestern and southeastern part of Shanghai, and in sp ring, summer and autumn, the decrease of thunderstorm dayswasmore in the western and southern part, the northwestern part, and the southern part of Shanghai, respectively. In the first 8 years of 21 st century, the first day of thunderstorm was earlier．but the last day changed insignificantly at Xujiahui station.
